In 2019, me and Anja had an unforgettable trip to Corsica. I wanted to manifest this in a piece of art and the best way I know how to create with is Photoshop. But it seemed dull to me to just use some filters on a photo of this holiday and print it out. I wanted to give it a proper “GTA” look, like it was a game cover of the series. I took two pictures of the vacation that I would put together to sum up the most significant memories in one picture — the motorcycle we traveled around with and the village we lost the car keys in… 🙂 I then transformed it into the GTA-style cover using Photoshop.

To give this another level, I plotted stencil masks from sign vinyl and primed the base with white spray paint. The silhouette of Anja & the bike with full coverage and the background only about 30% — so the printed colours would get soaked up more and the main motif would stand out more, like usually on the GTA graphics, but brought into the physical world. I then had to place the primed sheet of paper into the printer exactly where it would start printing the motif (this took some trying before of course).I then used reclaimed pallet wood, stained it dark, glued the finished print onto it and spray painted the title “France 19” with two stencils onto the wood and the picture, connecting the frame and print seamlessly. The outcome of the print is the look and feel of a true painting, even though digitally inspired, digitally crafted and digitally printed.
