When I was renovating & preparing our guesthouse to turn it into an Airbnb, I came to the point where I needed to think about the optimized use of space. As the house is small but has an open kitchen / living room floorplan, the best option for dining was the front right corner. But a square or rectangular table would extend too far into the room with chairs around it, which would interfere with the TV hanging on the wall.
After looking online for a couple of hours, I could not find what I was looking for. The round dining tables I could find had either massive legs around the perimeter, which created the same problem as a square table, or were just crazy expensive.
So I went to my workshop, took a piece of 25mm thick plywood I had lying around, cut it to size, cut & welded some square steel tubing I also had left over, painted and mounted them as table legs—not interfering with the chairs and needing minimal space when all 4 chairs are tucked under the table. The asymmetrical placement of the steel tubes is functional, but gives the table an unusual, slightly artsy look at the same time.
